Garden competition winners brighten WPH Neighbourhoods!

The winners of Wirral Partnership Homes’ (WPH) Garden Competition 2008 have been announced at an awards ceremony which took place at the Lauries Centre, Birkenhead.

Winners for the ‘Best Front Garden’ were Mr Fleet from Eastham (1 st ), Mr Goodwin from Moreton (2 nd ) and Mrs Hicklin with Mrs Frazer from Bromborough (3 rd ).  The ‘Balcony section’ winners were Mrs Williams and Miss Parker from Tranmere and Mrs Muriel Wilkinson from Moreton.  Mr Cook from Tranmere, Mrs Owen from Moreton and Mr Loftus from Moreton bagged the ‘Communal Garden section’ award. This year a new ‘Community Spirit’ prize was awarded in recognition of contributions to community gardens. This special award went to Mrs Harding and Mrs Martin from Moreton for all their hard work in building a positive spirit in their locality.




A ‘Children’s section’ was introduced this year and entrants aged between 2 and 13 years were asked to draw their ‘Dream Garden’. Winners were Letitia Quine, David Moore, Leeanna Husan, Rebecca Kelly, Megan Taylor, Megan Davies, Samantha Osborne, Chloe Taylor, Abbi-Lou Cook and Macy Bryan. 

Prizes, that included gift vouchers and gardening equipment, were presented by WPH Deputy Chief Executive Patrick McCarthy and Mayor Councillor Adrian Jones. Patrick McCarthy said: “WPH would like to say a big thank you to all who entered the competition for not only taking part but enhancing WPH neighbourhoods too.”



The standard of entries was so high, one judge stated: “All the gardens this year have been a delight to see. The assortment of flowers, colours and scent has been wonderful.  It has been very difficult to choose a winner.”
