The Apprentice - You're Hired!

Wirral Partnership Homes (WPH) celebrates the successful appointment of six new Construction Craft Apprentices for 2008.

Local housing association, WPH are one of the few employers who have continued to support the local construction economy by annually recruiting a new intake of construction apprentices, in a climate where such positions are extremely scarce. This is evident by the 750 applications received by WPH this year for its apprenticeship training programme, starting in September.

The Apprenticeships offer the opportunity to learn a trade through quality training and support from fully experienced technicians. The successful six (pictured L to R) are: Ian Bigelow (Apprentice Plasterer); Adam Parker (Apprentice Glazier); Catherine Jackson (Apprentice Painter); Peter Walton (Apprentice Plumber); Kristie Williams (Apprentice Painter) and Lewis Carr (Apprentice Electrician).

Given that the construction industry is significantly under-represented by women, WPH is pleased that two of their successful six apprentices are female. Plus, as there is no longer an age restriction for apprenticeships, WPH’s new recruits are of diverse ages.

New Apprentice Painter, Kristie Williams said: “I’m delighted to get a place on the programme and particularly pleased that WPH has no age limit to their apprenticeships. I can’t wait to start learning a trade!”

Trevor Jones, Managing Director of WPH Building Services said:  “We are extremely proud of our craft apprenticeship programme. We extend a warm welcome to each of our new apprentices and wish them well for their future training.”
