Wirral Partnership Homes (WPH) is delighted to have helped provide holidays for young, disabled children.

Through its Community Grant Fund, WPH has funded two, one-week narrowboat holidays for 10 disabled children and their carers. The project was developed by WPH with Elleray Park School and the Wirral Community Narrowboat Trust.

WPH Chief Executive, Brian Simpson said: “WPH is committed to engaging with the local community and building up business education links, and these holidays not only give the children experiential learning but also provides respite for their families.”

Carer, Dawn Bennett, added: “The children are so excited. Some families do not get any help so this is the first time their children have been away. It’s going to be hard-going but exciting for the children as they experience new life skills living as part of the crew for the week, like piloting the boat, opening locks and working toward their Cub badges.”

Headteacher, Margaret Morris said of the children’s departure: “The pupils left school so excited. The parents came in to wave them off filled with mixed emotions. The children waved goodbye to the school, staff and parents keen to be on their way.”
