Bogus Callers
"The average age of a victim of bogus callers is 78, and 74% of victims live alone" (Source: Home Office) |
Distraction buglary by bogus callers is most likely to affect our most vulnerable residents.
We want to keep all our residents informed about the risk of 'bogus callers' - people who call at your home and trick their way inside in order to steal.
We have designated a number of our blocks in areas at high risk of crime as 'No Cold Caller Buildings' and displayed posters to alert callers. People who cold call in these areas could be prosecuted.
You can take some simple steps to reduce the risk of becoming a victim of crime due to bogus callers:
Stop Think - are you expecting any callers? Do they have an appointment? Chain Secure the door bar or chain before opening the door Check Ask for and double check the caller's ID |
Remember, all WPH staff calling at your property will carry an ID card. Before you even speak to them, ask to see it, and keep the door on the chain while you look it over.
